WE WON THE ORDINARY HERO GRANT!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU made us the #1 SELLER!!!!!

From Wednesday through Sunday you bought $1199.04 of merchandise, in which we received a commission (towards our adoption) of $479.62!!!! That put us in the #1 spot (only $60 in sales above the next affiliate) earning us the $500 grant!!!!!

I am BLOWN AWAY you guys!!!!! I never actually thought it was possible for us to win that. I thought I had already pestered the poo outta you with my shirts and headbands and that YOU had felt has "done" with this whole fundraising thing as I was. But you guys responded in an INCREDIBLE way and lit a FIRE under my butt!!!!

Our goal before this weekend was to raise another $2000 so that we can be DONE fundraising...and you guys got us almost halfway there....IN JUST ONE WEEKEND!!! Fundraising Blitz

From now until Sunday night I am going to light up email and facebook with plea's to help us fund our adoption. Ordinary Hero is having a SALE (20% off) through Sunday and 40% of what we sell goes directly towards our adoption trip costs! PLUS they are giving away $1000 this weekend to the top 3 sellers of items in their store! I so want to be one of the TOP 3! I really want to be #1! This is the easist and FASTEST way I know to raise some much needed cash towards our adoption costs! They are selling jewelry, tshirts, sweatshirts, hats (kids and adult sizes). Another Grant Opportunity!!!

We feel so blessed at the support we have already received, but I'm excited to share with you another opportunity we have to win a $100 grant!

Ordinary Hero, who we are fundraising with, is offering $100 matching grant to the fundraising family with the highest commission on Friday, April 1st (that's tomorrow!) We need to make at least $75 in commissions to qualify, but this is a great opportunity for us that we would like to snatch if at all possible!

If you remember, we get a 40% commission off of any merchandise purchased through the Ordinary Hero store when you choose "Domesticated Diva" as the affiliate (which is a drop down menu on the checkout page)!

There is some stiff competition out there, especially with the families just starting their fundraising. I know we have asked a lot of you over the last 16+ months that we've been fundraising...and please know that we do appreciate EACH and EVERY ONE of you...but we can't stop until we've reached our goal! We did not win the $100 matching grant with Ordinary Hero....this time. They have hinted at the possibility of a couple contests like this though, woohoo!!! I wanted to say a HUGE thank you, though, to all who purchased from our fundraisers! We feel so blessed to be supported by such a wonderful community!!!

Regardless of the grant, though, it was a GREAT day!!! Why? We received our COURT DATE!!!! The Lord is good! So all weekend we'll be pricing out flights to AFRICA {ahhhhh...did I really just write that??}...sheesh are those babies expensive!! =) LOL!

Keep it coming you guys! You are blowing me away with your love, encouragement, and support! You have my permission to call yourself a ROCKSTAR! =)

Fundraising to the END!!! Launching WOTP & OH!!!

For those of you who DON'T follow our family blog...we are THRILLED to announce that we received our referral for a two-month-old baby girl!!! She is tiny, and more beautiful than we could have ever imagined! As I'm sure you can imagine, getting anything done around the house has seemed impossible in the last two weeks as I catch myself gazing at her beautiful face over and over and over again. Even our two-year-old is smitten by her! But now that the shock value of this life-changing event has worn off some, reality is clicking in.

We are SO close to our fundraising goal, with only an estimated $2,500 left to raise. Totally doable, am I right?!?! Definitely seems a lot less scary than when we first started!!! So WITH THAT...I'm really excited to announce our newest fundraising adventures with Worthy of the Prize and Ordinary Hero!!!

First off....Worthy of the Prize - what a FITTING name considering we feel like we just won the lottery with our amazing little girl!!! Although we feel far from "worthy of the prize" of being chosen to be T's parents, we will GLADLY take in on!!!

Custom Onesies ~ Made With LOVE!

I met my friend Niki through our agency's listserv {yahoo group} and we became fast friends, along with three other ladies and all of our families. Throughout reading my blog(s) you will see pictures and hear mention of these ladies/families often. We've become a very tight-knit group!

Recently I had the joy of celebrating Niki's referral and anticipated arrival of her little Judah at her adoption baby shower! It was so fun to connect with these fabulous ladies again, drool over pictures of Niki's new little man, and meet her gracious and lively family and friends!

Showers can cause some mixed emotions in me...mainly stemming from the fact that gift-giving is my love language, and...as anyone in the adoption world knows {unless I'm alone here, which may very well be possible} ...the adoption budget = almost NO budget! So I always have a hard time knowing what to do for gifts. As much as I would love to buy a store out in preparation for this little one, I know that it's just not possible for us right now. So in order to save a little money, I decided to design some clothes for this little man =) Check out my work:

When she opened this first one, she had tears in her eyes {bless her heart}. Any adoptive mama who has poured her love into fundraising for her unknown baby gets it. These "Heart of Africa" onesies are what kicked off our fundraising efforts, so she mentioned how special it was to her to have one for her son.

This elephant was one of my favorites - so happy I had two coordinating fabrics, because that was just the icing on the cake!

This car was my son's favorite! If I would have let him, he would have carried it around the house all week.

The star makes for an ADORABLE diaper butt! =)

The giraffe was one of my personal favorites - just so sweet and cute!

And the "J" for JUDAH put a big smile on her face!

{Meet the B Family}

I have known Stephanie for quite some time. She graduated from high school with my older brother, and we were both bridesmaid in his wedding! Living in separate parts of the state, we didn't talk since until facebook reconnected us fairly recently. =) Shortly after we came public with our adoption news, Steph emailed me with tons of questions. She and her husband were researching adoption! Seeing their announcement of their domestic adoption just a few months later put such a smile on my face! This is such a beautiful family, inside and out - any child would be blessed to call their family their own.

But enough from me!!! Stephanie can tell you in her own words about her family's adoption journey:

TO OUR FAMILY & FRIENDS:
It is our pleasure to announce that our family has begun the journey of a domestic adoption. It is one that we tried to ignore, but when teh Holy Spirit places a calling and conviction on your heart it soon becomes impossible to hide the possible.
It really wasn't untill after we both read The Hole in Our Gospel, written by Richard Sterns president of World Vision, that we started hearing the cry of the orphans. Both at different times and paces, but together we heard their cry. We both tried to find reasons why adopting would not work for us: not enough money, not enough bedrooms, work schedules, kids too young, ect. We also found that in everything we did, adoption was somehow connected to it. Books read, movies watched, standing behind families bringing their child home for the first time at the airport, following other local families in their adoption process, ect.
It was then that the devastating earthquake struck Haiti and we found ourselves needing to do more then watch it unfold on TV. We exhausted every possibility to bring a newly orphaned child home. After having many closed doors we then started our research about local and national adoption agencies. Now that we have found a local social worker, JoAnn Vesper from Agape Adoptions, we have begun the long process of bringing our chosen child home. This includes filling out pages and pages of paperwork FBI fingerprinting, home visits, and waiting to get that phone call that a birthmother has chosen our family to love her baby.
Aside from our fundraisers, we ask that you participate with our family in prayer for not just our family but the family of a young mother who is so lost she is placing her baby up for adoption. So often we think of only the family receiving teh child but, we ask that you pray for the grandparents releasing a grand baby to another family, a sibling not being able to be an Auntie or an Uncle, and a young women not being able to hear the words, "Mama" or watch her child sleep peacefully in her arms. We ask that you pray for the lawyers reviewing our file, communication between us and our social worker to be open and honest, for our children to understand our hearts desire, and God's guidance and mighty Hand to be throughout our adoption journey. We ask that you walk this journey with us as we take a closer step to bringing our baby home.

I know, I know....it's not Christmas. Yet. {And that isn't really our name, so sue me!} But with Halloween behind us, it's time to start thinking about your Christmas cards! Well you're in luck!!! As our latest fundraiser, I have designed 15 Christmas cards for you to choose from {this one is my husband's current favorite} and customize for your family.

For you adoptive families...ever realized how HARD it is to find a card to include your heart in Ethiopia {or insert country of choice}?? Auction Donation & Christmas Orders

At the beginning of the month, our church hosted their annual "Taco Talent Night" (fundraiser with an auction, food, and talents) to raise money for the January Marriage Retreat! This is always an event we look forward to every year. It was really hard for me not to be able to participate in the auction like we normally do (we usually spend most of our holiday bonus at this event, but this year that money is going towards our adoption), so I put a little extra work into donations for the auction....

I found this adorable sweatshirt and LOVED how the inside of the hoodie matched the shirt...I just HAD to do something fun with it! I loved it so much I wanted to keep it....BUT I figured I could always make another!

Emma's Ready for SUMMER

....which is SOOO over now, btw! But what can I say??? THAT'S how behind I am on posts. Thank you all for your support all summer long! I had a great time making tanks and I'm am now ready to move on to LONG-SLEEVED SHIRTS!!! After all, its beginning to feel like Fall here (not to mention its one season CLOSER to my Lil Miss)!!

Facelift!!!

In case you haven't been here lately (or even if you have and you just haven't noticed) I wanted to let you all know I have been working hard on giving this blog a facelift. Although I've had a lot of success with our fundraisers, the biggest complaint is that people don't know how to order! I've tried several times to make this easier and more efficient...but I'm happy to say that my latest adjustments seem to be the best yet! With that being said though, YOU are the ones using it.

So now that you are here, I would appreciate if you would take a moment to look around. Grab your coffee and take a load off! Browse all the new features (mainly those little tabs right under the header? Yeah...my new best friends!) and PLEASE...if you would be so kind, give me your feedback! For those of you who haven't heard, we were recently turned down for both adoption grants we have applied for. While it was a disappointment, we are not discouraged! You can read more about that on my blog post HERE.

Regardless of my emotions, we DO have a lot more fundraising to do. The shirts have been a HUGE success (thank to all of YOU!) and although I will continue to do them, I feel like we need something a big bigger. I would love to get everyone's advice and suggestions....so BRING IT ON!!! =)

In addition to that, we have been considering doing the coffee fundraiser again....but we also don't want to burn people out on just one thing. So...I was wondering how many of you would actually be interested in purchasing Ethiopian coffee so I could get an idea on whether or not it would be smart to place another order and how much we should order.

I know, I know, its been awhile. In all honesty, I've been slightly overwhelmed with my "To Do" list, but my heart is completely overflowing with gratefulness. THANK YOU a million times over to all my wonderful friends who have been THE best support system EVER this last week! I think I would have given up on the whole idea long ago if it wasn't for you.

Like I said, I am overflowing. The time people have donated to helping me, the items that have donated and collected...I am just in awe...and I feel so loved!

So the YARD SALE!!! - Friday and Saturday from 8-4! If you are in the Seattle area and you have donations or you want to check it out, shoot me an email and I'll give you directions.

Here are some pictures of our piles of donations SO FAR (and yes we need more)...they are taking over our spare room!!!

I'm SO excited and I'm SO nervous. But mostly just excited at what God is going to do this weekend - on behalf of our adoption, and hopefully in the hearts of others. My prayer for this fundraiser is not only that it would be sucessful and aid in bringing our angel home (although that is a HUGE prayer and would be a GIGANTIC weight off my shoulders if it is...) but that hearts will be softened for the cause of the orphan. I pray that people who have never considered adoption before would look more into it. I pray that people who have considered it would make the plunge with faith that God will provide for His calling. I pray that the HUGE NEED would be exposed and there would be a longing for change. And I pray that there will be an outpouring of love and support for the adoption community. Thank you Jesus for this opportunity to share your heart for your children!!!

Meet Maleah!

You may (or may not) have been reading on my family blog about my niece who just came home from Ethiopia. Maleah is cute as a button (as you can see) and has the absolute sweetest personality. Right off the bat she was smiling and giggling and grabbing her big brothers' ears...we could just eat her up. So this cupcake onesie I specially designed for her (as a baby shower gift) seems to fit her sweet and yummy personality just perfectly! She is also sporting one of my headbands, you'll see! Isn't she just cute enough to eat? ;)

Garage Sale - Donations Requested!!!

We are starting a new fundraising adventure. One with almost no up front cost, but that has been very sucessful for a lot of adoptive families in the past.

We are hosting a Garage/Yard Sale to raise money for our adoption!!!

Yes, we have been talking about doing this since the announcement of our adoption. But since that was last fall...and well, we do live in one of the wettest locations in the continental U.S...we finally have an opportunity to do one!

The date is finally set - Friday July 9th, 2010

Here's how YOU can help:

Pray for us! Yes, this is number 1! Not only have we never done one before, but we have a lot on our plate in the next few months so this is being kind of jam-packed in the middle of it all. I'm am setting aside my fear of the unknown and just going for it. I need to push aside my perfectionist nature and just get it done rather than focus on being overly-organized (if that's possible).
Donate items! We have a small selection of items right now including furniture, clothing, kitchen utensils, house decor, skis, stuffed animals, ect. But to make this as sucessful as possible we are asking for your help. If you have things you've been setting aside for Good Will, or to give away, or even if you were contemplating doing a garage sale of your own...we humbly ask that you would consider donating to ours. All proceeds go to our adoption to BRING OUR ANGEL HOME!
Donate your time! Again...we have NEVER done this before. We're kind of in the dark in how this all goes. If you have time and would be willing to help...I will definately take you up on that. Anything from collecting donations, to helping with pricing, to making signs or adding items for a bake sale, to helping the day of the garage sale...we'll take it! Whatever you are willing to do would be greatly appreciated.
Share your tips and ideas! I know many, many, many of you have thrown garage sales before. Whether for an adoption fundraiser, or just a way to clear out your junk...we would love any tips or ideas that worked great for you!

Recently I posted about being under $100 shy of the money we needed for our USCIS stuff we needed to turn in. I was blow away by your support and contributions! I posted that before I went to bed, and by the time I woke up this morning, I had received more than enough donations to cover the cost. And it kept on coming! Your generous donations and faithful support have allowed us to send in this very important document for our immigration fingerprinting appointment...and have started building towards our referral and travel costs. And I can't say THANK YOU enough! I hope this E-Hug shows even a smigen of the thanks I have towards all of you who have helped along this journey!!!

This is my niece, Lil Chick!

I know, she looks just like me, right?!?! ;) Actually Amanda (her mom) she's looking more and more like you each day! And I LOVE her pigtails!

Changes With Toddler Shirts

I wanted to let you all know that Walmart (where I purchase the toddler shirts) have phazed out the tshirts and changed to tank tops for girls and muscle tees for boys. They are really cute so please don't let this discourage you from ordering! I am currently working on some for a friend. I will be sure to post pictures of them when I'm finished. But until then I thought I would show you the one I recently made for my Monkey:

Coffee Sale!!

We need to push this coffee out of our hands. Why?

Because we are $95 short of the amount we need to apply for our USCIS (immigration) prints for our adoption. We are on somewhat of a time crunch to get this done because we need these clearances before we can be matched with a child. There can be a lot of delays involved with fingerprint clearances (as we learned with our FBI prints) so we are hoping to get these done ASAP.

Because this is a public blog, I try to keep the information a little more vague. But for those of you who don't know me personally, I wanted to share that we are officially on the waiting list for our Baby Girl! (Officially #48, unofficially #44) We are so thrilled and relieved to be at this place in the process and are so thankful for all of you who have helped us come so far!

To date I have now made 75 shirts!!! Wow - I'm amazed my fingers have been that busy! I feel like God has stretched the hours to provide the time to do this fundraising.

Please keep them coming, we have a ways to go yet! If you haven't yet, share our blog with a friend, purchase one as a gift, and please pray!

For our next initial goal, we are short $125. That is a piddly ammount compared to what I have asked for in the past. Dress For A Cause

I love adoption shirts. I love making them, I love buying them, and I love wearing them.

A family from our agency is doing a really FUN fundraiser (I only wish I would have thought of it myself)! It's called "Dress For A Cause". Here's the jist of it:

How you ask? This is how the FUNdraiser works. This is a raffle. $10 gets you one entry. $15 gets you two. Blog about it, and you get a third (only after 1&2). Easy peasy, right?

Now...you may be wondering why I'm sharing with you about someone else's fundraising when I'm trying to raise money for our own adoption. Well all of us are in this together. Especially when you share a heart for adoption, you want to do everything you can to help find a home for every orphan.

Calling All Coffee Cravers!!!

As the newest addition to our fundraising adventures, this delicious-smelling Ethiopian brew will make your taste buds salivate! (I would know because with 20lbs in our hands, our entire kitchen and car smells like this! Mmmmmm...)

These one pound bags are a $15 minimum donation. (They are grounds, not beans...for those of you who were asking.) It is organic and fair trade - purchased from Stoney Creek Roasters. Each bag has our custom label on it with information to our fundraising blog. All proceeds go to our adoption fund - just one more way you can help us get our daughter home!!!

With the recent news of the required TWO trips to Ethiopia for the adoption...we now have to come up with an extra $4,000-$6,000. We are confident that God will provide the money necessary because we know that this is a journey that He has called us on. Thank you ALL so much for your prayers and financial contributions (you can see the fundraising thermometor on the side bar gradually increasing!!!). We feel so encouraged by all of your support! We can't wait to share with our daughter how this community surrounded us in love and prayer to help bring her home!

Fastest Toddler In The World!

I just got an email that put a smile on my face. My sister, Laura, sent me seven pictures of my adorable nephew sporting his "Heart of Africa" shirt! It definately appears as if she chased him around the yard in attempt of one good shot! But you know how toddlers are! It took me months to catch one of my Lil Monkey!

My brother and his wife are also adopting a sweet Ethiopian princess and it has been such a blessing to be going through this journey of adoption together! So although this handsome little nephew of mine is wearing his shirt in support of our adoption, he is also wearing it with love for his soon-to-be little sister! Stinkin' cute!

Throughout this fundaising process, we have been blessed to have the full support of our church family. We have such a great group of friends who have surrounded us in their love, prayers, and financial support. Just look at how many kiddos have been wearing my Africa shirts!

I'm so proud of each and every one of these children and their parents for proudly supporting the orphans of our world. When we're all finished with this process, and we're home with our angel, there will be one less orphan in this world. And a lot of thanks, will be to our wonderful church family! Can't tell you how much we love you guys!

Custom Orders!

Custom "Heart of Africa" Orders ARE Available!

A few of you have been confused on how these orders work. I have posted pictures of the "Heart of Africa" shirts and onesies I have made to give you an idea of what they look like, but I am custom making them when you place an order, unless I specify otherwise. This means you have choices! You choose the shirt color (onesies are only available in white) and any one of he designs I have pictured. If you have something specific in mind, contact me and I'll see if its possible!

The onesies are Carters, so that can give you an idea of how the sizes run. They run pretty true to size for my son, but he is pretty small for his age.

Most of the shirts are now being purchased from Old Navy (unless I find a better deal somewhere else). So yes, children's sizes are available as well! They will be short sleeved or long sleeved depending on what is available. If you have a preference, please let me know when you order.

You choose the size, the color, and the design. Then you email me to let me know! Please allow 3 weeks for me put them together (I am a busy mama and I am putting these together during naps)! =) If you have a rush order let me know at the time of order and I will let you know if my schedule allows for timeframe you have in mind!

These "Heart of Africa" onesies are designed with an Africa-shaped applique with a heart over Ethiopia. They are new & unworn Carter's onesies with a hand-designed applique. Each design is custom made and slightly unique from the rest. The onesies are white and currently available in sizes 6 months, 12 months, and 18 months. Applique designs are a Giraffe Print, Brown Brocade, Light Green Floral, Bright Green Scroll, and Zebra print. All can be done with or without pink stitching.
